AMP SoCal is proud to be a part of the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC) and its winning proposal for the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) manufacturing hub award. SMLC, a consortium of nearly 200 partners including AMP SoCal, is headquartered in Los Angeles and will lead the new Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute. The award brings over $140 million in public-private investments and will focus on advanced sensors, data analytics, and controls in manufacturing, and reduce costs and improve efficiency of advanced manufacturing in the U.S. There will be five additional regional manufacturing centers launched across the country, each focused on technology transfer and workforce development.

President Obama, keynote for the third annual SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington DC, cheered America’s business advantages and promoted foreign direct investment in the United States, while echoing the Summit’s theme of “The Innovation Advantage” to an audience of business leaders, economic development officials, and investors from around the world. It was during today’s keynote presentation that the President announced the award for SMLC.

Since 2014 we’ve opened eight cutting-edge manufacturing hubs,” said President Obama. “Today I’m proud to announce a ninth hub based in Los Angeles that will design smart sensors to make all types of manufacturing more efficient.”

Innovation within the advanced manufacturing field aligns with AMP SoCal’s mission to develop strategies that strengthen the competitive edge for Southern California’s aerospace and defense manufacturers and supply chain. AMP SoCal joined the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute to assist in improving supplier agility and its impact on innovation.  AMP SoCal will also facilitate the transfer of the technological developments to local manufacturers – improving the supply chain throughout Southern California.
