Reasons to consider supplier (export) business opportunities in the Baja Aerospace (Mexico) region:

  • 70+ A & D, space multinational & national firms
  • 95% of component inputs come from outside Mexico
  • Mexico Aerospace has been expanding (10+% growth)
  • The Baja Aerospace market represents $1.8 billion in supplier needs

Late last year (November 10-12, 2019) a group of California Manufacturers participated in the 2nd Annual Baja Aerospace Trade Tour to Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. This trade tour was coordinated by the Office of Mayor Garcetti’s Office of International Trade, the U.S. – Mexico Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Commercial Service, California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC®), together with the Mexicali Aerospace and Economic Development Teams, CETYS University, and local business professionals. During the two-and-a-half (2.5) day trade tour, Company executives toured aerospace multinational and national firms; met local business, government, and service professionals; and, participated in Buyer-Supplier meetings. During the B2B session a local Mexicali firm learned of the visiting Los Angeles trade delegation and attended in order to connect with a California Manufacturer from which it had purchased machinery. The following day the California Business Owners went to the local Company’s facility. Questions and efficiencies were addressed. For this California Manufacturer, the tour was an opportunity to connect with a foreign buyer and to establish a relationship reinforcing prospect for a future sale.

During a site visit to Honeywell, which included a tour of the facility, five (5) of the seven (7) Companies believed that there was supplier opportunity. According to the Honeywell Director of Procurement, Companies do need to follow a specific application process (including being AS9100 and/or NADCAP certified). Meeting the local Procurement Teams (and decision-makers) is important and can strengthen future export sales.

Bottom line, California Manufacturers may be able to increase sales growth as suppliers that meet Baja Aerospace buyers’ needs in a nearby global market.

Current supplier needs include, but are not limited to, the following:
