With current backlog equating to 7-8 years of production at projected production rates, there was good reason to be optimistic. Moreover, after several years of contraction, the defense sector was returning to growth in 2016 fueled by increases in U.S. defense budgets, a resurgence of global security threats, and growth in defense budgets of key nations around the world.
